Lower School

  • Art Class

    Lower School Art incorporates 2D & 3D concepts and ideas in art and processes. Materials are correctly and safely applied to convey personal interests and self-expression. Observation skills, prior knowledge, and art criticism skills are employed to reflect on and interpret works of art. Students use accurate art vocabulary, terms, and procedures with resources during the creative process.

Middle School

  • 5th Grade Fine Arts Rotation

    Fifth Grade students will have the opportunity to explore three areas of the visual & performing arts during their first year in middle school.  Time will be spent in art, band, & choir on a daily rotating basis.  In art, students will incorporate a variety of two- and three-dimensional concepts and ideas in art and processes to influence personal artistic decisions and create visual unity. In band, students will start the process of learning instruments, exploring three instrument families: woodwind, brass, & percussion. In choir, students will acquaint with quality children’s repertoire for performance and the fundamentals of vocal technique, harmony, and music literacy.
  • 6th Art Class

    Middle School students will continue to build their art vocabulary.  Principles of art criticism will be introduced as students begin to describe and analyze works of art.  Students will be able to explore more 2D and 3D methods including metal work and wood work.  Additionally, technology is heavily integrated into the middle school art curriculum.  Art classes meet daily.  Middle school art students are involved in VASE and PSIA competitions during the school year.
  • 7th-8th Art

Upper School

  • Advanced 2D Art

    This is a yearlong advanced-level course for upper school 2D and 3D art.  Students must have completed Beginning Upper School Art. Artists will advance their knowledge of the creative process, develop novel ways to show creativity, and gain an understanding of ways to depict their visual stories. They will continue making innovative and original works as well as engage in self, peer, and professional critiques. Students reinforce their knowledge of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students have the opportunity to participate in VASE and TAPPS Art competitions, gallery viewings, and installation processes.
  • AP Studio Art: 2D

    Advanced Placement Studio Art: 2-D is designed for the student who has reached a considerable level of skill in a number of media and who can demonstrate a high degree of independent artistic judgment.  A 2-D portfolio will be assembled.  Student portfolios are reviewed by college, university, and secondary school art instructors using rigorous standards.  This College Board program provides the only national standard for performance in the visual arts that allows students to earn college credit and/or advanced placement while still in high school.  The curriculum for this course aligns with The College Board requirements.  Students are encouraged to compete in various national art competitions as well as Texas VASE and TAPPS contests.
  • Beginning Upper School Art

    This is a yearlong introductory level course for upper school 2D and 3D art. Artists will gain knowledge of the creative process, show innovation, and understand new ways to depict their visual stories. They will make creative and original works as well as engage in self, peer, and professional critiques. Students will learn about the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in VASE and TAPPS Art competitions, gallery viewings, and installation processes.
  • Advanced 3D Art

    This course allows students to build on knowledge gained in the introductory class.  Students will be encouraged to explore complex sculptural techniques using a wide variety of materials, and to experiment with advanced methods of ceramic construction.  During the second semester, students will begin to concentrate on a particular area of interest and to develop a portfolio.  Emphasis will be placed on safety, respect, work ethic, creative expression, experimentation, and aesthetic problem solving.  Participation in VASE and TAPPS competitions is encouraged.
